General Information

C31 Melbourne and Geelong—the Melbourne Community Television Consortium—is Victoria’s not-for-profit community television service providing locally-based entertainment, education and information. C31 provides access and representation to the many diverse communities within Victoria. Transmitted from Mount Dandenong, C31’s signal reaches homes throughout Melbourne, Geelong and surrounding suburbs. C31 broadcasts over 90 new locally-made programs every week. You can find faces, voices and issues which are not present in mainstream television, including Deaf TV, the Sri Lanka Morning Show, Rodder’s Life and Class TV.

C31’s programs are produced by community television volunteers and independent television makers. Becoming involved in community television is an excellent opportunity to begin a career in television and the media. You will find more information on how individuals can volunteer with a C31 program or how you can make your own show, via this website.

Membership to C31 Melbourne is open to not-for-profit, incorporated community organisations. C31 Member Groups are community television production groups, representing a particular geographical, cultural or diverse interest section of the community. For more information on how your community group can become a new member of the Melbourne Community Television Consortium, please read the Membership Kit. C31 is funded through sponsorship sales, air time sales and tax-deductible donations. If you would like to make a donation, please click here.

What is Community TV?

Community Television is a not-for-profit television service providing local and diverse communities access to television broadcasting, and presenting news and issues not covered by commercial or government funded stations.

There are seven community television stations located in Adelaide, Brisbane, Lismore, Mt Gambier, Melbourne and Geelong, Perth and Sydney.

While the community television stations in Australia run cooperatively and sometimes share content, each Station is a separate organisation, operating under individual community broadcasting licences.
